I think we’ve all been guilty of grabbing a bag of potato chips to satisfy those hunger cravings at one point or another. Unfortunately, it’s processed foods such as this that contributes to weight gain. Potato chips are one of the worst snacks you eat, as they are loaded with sodium and saturated fat and contain very little actual nutrition. To make matters worse, most people grab the entire bag of potato chips rather than sizing out a small portion. A better solution is to choose a healthy and nutrition snack, such as one of the five examples listed below.
#1 – Celery and Peanut Butter
One healthy and nutritious snack idea is some freshly cut slices of celery along with a tablespoon or so of peanut butter. Celery is crunchy treat that’s loaded with Vitamin K along with several other essential nutrients. By itself, celery is somewhat plain; however, you can give it a kick of flavor by dipping it in some peanut butter first.
#2 – Carrots and Ranch Dressing
Another deliciously nutritious snack is carrots with a bit a ranch dressing. Carrots contain Vitamin A, Vitamin K and Vitamin D, all of which are powerful antioxidants that play a key role in the body’s overall health. Grabbing 1/2 cup of baby carrots with some light ranch dressing is an excellent snack that’s sure to leave you feeling satisfied. The key thing to remember, however, is to choose ‘light’ ranch for reduced calories and sodium.
#3 – Blueberries and Blackberries
If you have a sweet tooth, you should consider mixing together a snack of blueberries and blackberries. The delicate combination of tartness and sweetness is truly delightful. And both blueberries and blackberries are loaded with key vitamins and nutrients. Just fill up a small plastic baggie with some of your favorite berries and you have a delicious, nutritious on-the-go snack.
#4 – Almonds
Almonds are arguably one of the healthiest and most nutritious nuts out there. They are packed with manganese, Vitamin E, magnesium, Vitamin B2, phosphorus, protein, omega 3 & 6 fatty acids and LOADS of fiber. Some people are turned away from almonds due to their somewhat high calorie content. With that said, the fiber and omega fatty acids works to balance out its calorie content, making it a deliciously healthy snack.
#5 – Sliced Turkey Wrap
A fifth snack idea is a sliced turkey wrap. Rather than making a traditional turkey sandwich, which is loaded in carbohydrates, you can fill a low-cal, low-carb wrap with sliced turkey, lettuce, tomatoes and any other fresh veggies of your choosing.
